I started my own landscape design and consultation services company while working at Los Altos Nursery, a family owned business. I have now expanded to include plant materials procurement and delivery services. Since then I have worked with over 300+ clients to help make improvements to their landscapes via consultation or design work. My project reach spans from San Francisco to Morgan Hill and Gilroy, with select projects in Los Angeles, San Diego, and South Lake Tahoe.
I graduated Cal Poly SLO with a BS in Environmental Horticultural Science and an emphasis in Residential Landscape Design. I completed a six-month internship with All Seasons Gardening and Landscaping, a full-service landscape firm known for its comprehensive approach to design and installation. Following graduation, I returned to the company as a full-time designer, gaining an additional couple years of hands-on experience before relocating back to the Bay Area to continue growing in my field.
My journey began at Los Altos Nursery, a family-owned business where I started working in the summer of 1996. After college, I returned as a full-time manager while launching Furuichi Design in 2008, which evolved into Furuichi Landscapes in 2023.
Specialties
I specialize in knowledge of plant material. There are many designers who can create nice hardscape designs but may not understand the nitty gritty of plant selection (e.g. the breadth of plant availability, compatibility, ease of growth, etc.) Growing up in the retail nursery business has armed me with a vast plant knowledge that I pass on to my clients through a wider and wiser range of plant selection, in addition to beautifully designed yards. I also provide onsite consultation services to problem solve areas within the landscape, - from diagnosing sick plants to on the spot design solutions - a rarely offered service that also stems from my upbringing and education.
